Change that lasts

What brings about transformative change? Change that lasts? While I don’t discount immediate healing that God may miraculously and graciously give, is this normative? Can one decision not change the course of our life? Make a decision to trust Christ? Say “yes” to a proposal? Answer God’s calling on your life? Without a doubt, many decisions have the power to alter the path on which we have been traveling! But, I think, most transformative change, change that lasts, is constructed on the incremental decisions that are made in the small moments of life.

Paul Trip in “Trading One Dramatic Resolution for 10,000 Little Ones” on the Desiring God blog describes what God does in these small moments:

And what is he doing? In these small moments he is delivering every redemptive promise he has made to you. In these unremarkable moments, he is working to rescue you from you and transform you into his likeness. By sovereign grace he places you in daily little moments that are designed to take you beyond your character, wisdom and grace so that you will seek the help and hope that can only be found in him. In a lifelong process of change, he is undoing you and rebuilding you again—exactly what each one of us needs!
