I enjoy watching Burn Notice but can’t quite figure out why it seems to be so popular. Maybe it is because the key character is involved each week in helping others even though he himself has been burned, has suffered totally unfair losses of his way of life. Rachel Decker at Relevant Magazine sees in Burn Notice a helpful illustration of what Philippians 2:4 means, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Decker writes,
Michael Weston’s example of pursuing the thing that he most wants personally while continually also focusing on the needs of those around him who can benefit from the specialized skill set he has developed presents a potent visual of what balancing personal interests with the interests of others might look like.
