Paradoxical Commandments

Found these on Michael Hyatt’s blog but he pointed the way to the original source, Kent M. Keith.  Here they are from his web site which includes an explanation on why these were associated with Mother Theresa.  Keith wrote these when he was 19! You can also check out his universal moral code.

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

Good stuff. It reminds me of one of our favorite country songs by Martina McBride. It’s a beautiful piece. Enjoy.

Thanks! Here are some lyrics I found. Great Chorus
God is great but sometimes life aint good
      And when I pray
It doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
      But I do it anyway
      I do it anyway

And I will let others listen to get the rest of the stanzas (?) that end in the following
      . . . Build it anyway
      . . . Dream anyway
      . . . Believe it anyway
      . . . Love em anyway
      . . . Sing it anyway

Very encouraging to keep going. Reminds me of 2 Cor 4:16ff “So we do not lose heart!”
