Young age of man but old age of the earth

Fascinating study of the early Jewish sources by Dr. Gerald Schroeder about the age of the earth.  He suggests that we are dealing with two ages in Genesis 1.  The first six days are billions of years (don’t quite track how he computes the length of time) but suggests that it has only been a little less than 6000 years from the creation of Adam on day 7.  I am impressed but I suspect the young earthers out there will not be!

Question: What if the Hebrew translators of the scriptures were incorrect when they stated 1000 years to God is a day to man? What if God stated 1000 light years to God is a day to man. Then 1 million years would be equal to one day on man’s time scale, and the earth would instead be 6 million years old.

If earth itself is 6 million years old then this would account for the oldest fossils being almost 5 million years, with respect to age.

Hmmm, light years? I am not sure about the math on that one–assume you are referring to 2 Pet 3:8 which says, “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.” I think this statement was as figurative statement to tell us that we cannot figure out the timing of the Lord’s return. His timing is in no way is comparable to our own.

I meant if the earth itself is 6 million years old then this would account for the oldest human fossil.
