To facebook or not?

Do social networks like Facebook actually do harm to our health?  Check it out in a post on BBC. I think the author is saying yes–if the online networks end up reducing our personal face-to-face time with people.   I remain undecided.  This could affect my dissertation topic.  Need to find and read the original research article.

Any tech tool is neutral. It’s up to us if we use it with discipline.

yeees, but I think the author was asking if the social networks reduce the overall face to face interactions. I am not sure how they are evaluating that. If you read the comments in that article, I think facebook etc has actually brought a lot of people into communication together into more online relationships. Do these translate into more face to face time? There is no online replacement for the touch we can give someone, the look in their eyes showing us they care, the tone in their voice showing us how much they are hurting. So, that is the first data that I would need to see–correlating online behavior with face to face behavior. Then, there is all the wellness data–have people done the studies to determine if the wellness benefits of personal relationships do not happen if those relationships are exclusively online? I need to find the original article and will re-post on this

Yes, I see. This issue is getting hotter everyday and has become my posting priority!
